Marble floor tiles have continued to be the choice of most homeowners and builders for home decoration since its discovery. Its elegant and easy-to-clean features distinctly set it apart from other floor beautifiers such as carpets and wood. And although marble floor tiles are incredibly beautiful and durable, its price is also affordable considering the years it will last.

As with most other popular items, there are several facts about this building material that a lot of people do not know. It is true that almost everyone had seen, felt, and walked on a marble-made floor before, but here are some not-too-familiar facts about this impressive stone that will make you appreciate it more.

1.It is Resistant to Heat

If you have ever taken notice of waters from deep wells and oceans before, you would realize that they feel cold when the weather is relatively hot and warm when the weather is cold. This is the same thing that happens with marbles. On a very hot, sunny day, marble feels very cold to the feet or hand while it becomes a bit warm during the chilly winter period.

This observation can be attributed to the high resistance that marbles, in general, have for a sharp change in environmental temperature. It is for this reason that many people refer to it as a natural air conditioner for homes.

2.It Originated from a Metamorphic Stone

Another appropriate name that marble tiles can be called is limestone tiles. That’s because limestone gave birth to it. The process by which this happens is known as metamorphism. Here, limestone undergoes series of changes that are caused by great pressure and heat. The end result is a soft, crystallized solid known and called marble.

3.Its Different Shades is Due to Impurities

Pure crystalline marble is usually white in colour. However, not all marble floor tiles are white in colour. Some are red, pink and blue while others have some shades of green in them. Whatever shades outside of white that marble may have is as a result of impurities during the crystallisation process.

4.Marble Basins are Very Durable and Versatile

If you fix your floor with woods, of course, in a few years, you would be thinking of replacing it. This is true for carpets too. In fact, apart from having to change your carpets very often, the process of cleaning it can be tedious. However, when marble floor tiles are what you have in your home, you can rest your mind knowing full well that it can last for a couple of years.

Similarly, marble floor tiles do not select home decor or interior design materials. Unlike carpets that you have to be careful in selecting the colour and make, most marbles are compatible with almost any interior design you may want to incorporate into your home.

5.It Can be Used in Place of Concrete or Block

Not many people know that an entire building can be constructed with marble. But, of course, this is possible. For instance, the Taj Mahal, the Green Temple of Apollo, the Parthenon, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa are some of the few buildings in antiquity constructed entirely with marble.

In a Nutshell

Marble is priceless as far as building floor and exterior are concerned. It is not likely going to go out of fashion soon, especially considering its elegance and durability.
