Garden Sheds

A garden shed is a major installation in a home. It’s a big investment with numerous benefits. In most cases, a garden shed remains as a permanent installation. However, before getting one, there are several things to consider.

Price and Quality

Price alone is not a reliable indicator of a good garden shed. Cheap garden sheds aren’t always the best option. When looking at the price tag it’s important to check the quality of the garden shed. Top-quality materials and solid builds look better and last longer than cheaper options. If you get a good deal on a high-quality garden shed, that’s a jackpot. However, if you are on a strict budget you are safer going with simple well-built sheds built from basic materials. You can leave out the fancy detailing and premium materials.

The design of a garden shed affects the aesthetics and functionality. When looking at the size, get a garden shed that serves your needs. If you have a lot to put away in your garden shed or you are looking to use the space as a work area, select the appropriate size to serve these functions. A big garden shade with little or no use is a waste of space while a small shed that cannot serve its function is a waste of money. Moreover, a garden shed should complement the style of your home. It is an extension of your house hence it must match up to it. There are numerous garden shed designs. Customization is possible done on every element including finer details on the finishing. The looks of your garden shed reflect on the overall look of your property.

The Build

Garden sheds are built from three main materials; metal, wood and plastic. Wooden sheds are covered with plywood siding and have a strong frame. The roof often has a wooden frame and typical roofing materials like asphalt shingles. Wooden garden sheds require a lot of maintenance work from repainting to replacing rotted parts. Metals shed, on the other hand, have a metal framework covered in a skin. The shed requires little maintenance but the metal can corrode when the paint or coat is damaged. Plastic garden sheds are often built from PVC. The shed doesn’t need paint or a coat and maintenance requirements are minimal.

Zoning Laws

Some areas have zoning law restrictions for sheds. Moreover, bylaws also put guidelines on the installation of sheds. In some areas, sheds cannot be installed close to the property line. There are also laws on the overall height of a shed. Before buying a shed it’s important to check with the city officials and the homeowners association. You don’t want to invest in a shed and land on the wrong side of the law.

Garden sheds are installed alongside gardens and pre-existing landscapes. When choosing a shed, it’s important to select one that blends in seamlessly with your outdoor design. You don’t want something that sticks out like sore thumbs. With simple additions like garden beds and trellises, you can make your shed look like part of the yard. If you get all the qualities of a garden shed right, the installation will never look out of place
